Observatory for Human Rights of Vulnerable Groups
The Observatory for Human Rights of Vulnerable Groups in the Dominican Republic is a platform where civil rights individuals and organizations can report cases of human rights violations against marginalized groups. The focus groups are sex workers, LGBTI, people using drugs, people with HIV/AIDS, people subjected to human trafficking, people with disabilities, victims of gender discrimination, immigrants and troubled youth. Next to receiving and registering reports of cases of human rights violations, the observatory also gives legal counseling to victims, with the main aim of improving the quality of human rights provision in the Dominican Republic and enforcing the rule of law. Furthermore, the observatory seeks to pressure the Dominican government to continue implementing its legislation. Organizations supporting the observatory range from various human rights NGOs, to NGOs working on specific groups of marginalized people as well as International Organizations and governmental institutions of the DR. In 2015, the observatory received 40 reports of human rights violations in Santo Domingo and Santiago.
