Local Health Councils

The Local Health Councils are bodies that promote the participation of institutions, organizations and citizens in municipal public health management. In order to decentralize the health service in Paraguay, Law No. 1032 of 1996 established the creation of councils, thereby delegating competencies and resources to the local level. In this way, the Councils have the capacity to develop and administer health programs according to local needs. The Councils are made up of representatives of various organizations, and those not included can apply to join the Council as long as they demonstrate a connection between their activities and the health sector.
