ReciVeci

ReciVeci is a citizen initiative focused on increasing and enhancing the work of basic recyclers in Ecuador through education and the conscious involvement of citizens. The project seeks to generate a recycling culture through a conscious human bond between the recycler and the general public, which in turn should stimulates recycling in the neighborhoods of Quito. Part of the project incorporates digital technology, with an app in development designed to connect citizens with recyclers. The app helps identify what is recyclable and not, and reveals who is the recycler of the neighborhood and who the separated waste can be delivered to. ReciVeci is the product of a previous citizen participation initiative, denominated LabCívico Ecuador and driven by the Chilean NGO Ciudadano Inteligente. During 2016, this initiative equipped 11 recyclers of the Smiling Association, the improvement of the infrastructure of the collection center of the Smiling Association, the direct training of citizens of zone zero of the project and the culmination of technological innovation for the education of recycling through an app. Between recyclers and volunteers, some 30 people participate in the project.
