Strengthening preparedness and response capacities in vulnerable peri-urban neighborhoods and organized structures in Guayaquil canton

Strengthening preparedness and response capacities in vulnerable peri-urban neighborhoods and organized structures in the Canton of Guayaquil is a project carried out by the International CARE Organization with funding from the European Commission and in cooperation with the Municipal Guayaquil Allies and the Directorate of Risk Management and Cooperation. The overall objective of the project is to reduce the risk of loss of human life and property damage to geological and meteorological phenomena in vulnerable areas of Guayaquil canton. To this end, the project aimed to strengthen the capacity of first response through the articulation of neighborhood committees, the strengthening of mechanisms for organization, coordination and communication, among other specific measures. The initiative began in 2013 and lasted until the end of 2014. About 64 250 people participated, all of them from Cerro El Jordán and Nueva Prosperina.
