Placemaking Santo Domingo Este

The Pocket Squares project was carried out between 2018 and 2019 by the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) in cooperation with SDE town hall and the National Administrative Office of the President. The aim of the project was to improve the quality and increase the communitarian use of public spaces in the city through a participatory method for experimental urban planning and communitarian actions. Neighbors from the intervened areas and voluntary architecture students engaged in planning and executing the improvement of public parks that could help improve the community?s public life by enabling the practice of sports, recreation and culture. A ?pocket square? is meant to be a temporary space or a partial improvement of an already existing one with the purpose of providing fast outcomes on the community?s wellbeing at a low cost. The Chilean private firm ?Ciudad de Bolsillo?, which specializes in tactical urbanism, was part of the project.
