Know Your Budget
Fundación Solidaridad (lit. Solidarity Foundation), a civil society organization, together with the International Budget Partnership (IBP), founded a campaign for budget transparency in the Dominican Republic named ?Conoce tu Presupuesto? (Know your Budget). The main aim of the campaign was to promote the knowledge of public budgeting amongst the citizens, and thus inspire a more open and informed culture of participation. The aim is based on the provision in Dominican Law that public budgets are to be drawn up in a participatory manner with citizens. Moreover, significant amounts of municipal budgets are to be administered by the respective communities. The IBP, bases its country analyses on surveys filled out by independent researchers and civil society organizations, which assess the performance of the Dominican Republic?s budgeting process for transparency, budget oversight and public participation. Furthermore, results and calls for participation are published on various social media channels, communicating the work of the IBP and Fundación Solidaridad.
