Citizen Watch Center for Women Exercising Citizenship

The Citizen Watch Center for Women Exercising Citizenship as part of the Collective for Women and Health (Colectiva Mujer y Salud) is primarily dedicated to the monitoring and enforcement of the implementation of women's rights in the Dominican Republic. In this sense, the watch center monitors the implementation of international agreements pertaining to women's rights in the Dominican Republic, as well as the development of the legislative process on that matter. The watch center is involved in the review of various Laws supporting their rights, such as the proposal for the creation of a Law on sexual and reproductive health (Ley sobre Salud Sexual y Salud Reproductiva) as well as a Law for the prevention, sanction and eradication of violence against women (Ley Integral para la Prevención, Atención, Sanción y Erradicación de la Violencia Contra las Mujeres). Furthermore, the observatory participates in public hearings and other public spaces where women's rights are (under-)represented. The Collective for Women and Health is an advocacy organization, tracking the implementation of women's and sexual rights as well as empowering women and female leaders to claim their rights and fight for the implementation of international agreements signed by the Dominican Government. As part of their advocacy work, the collective is gathering and publishing data on femicides, progress on legal processes and data on maternal mortality.
