Unit for the Search of Missing Persons in the Context and due to the Armed Conflict (UBPD)

The Unit for the Search of Missing Persons in the Context and due to the Armed Conflict (span. UBPD) is one of the collective bodies that make up the tripartite structure of Colombia's Comprehensive System for Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-Repetition (span. SIVJRNR). The System was created as a result of the peace processes, and in particular of the Agreement for the Termination of the Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace, signed between the national government of Colombia and the FARC guerrilla movements. In particular, the UBPD is an entity of a humanitarian nature and independent from the other powers of the State, composed of government representatives, public servants, and citizen representatives of the National Board of Victims, as well as other civic organizations of victims, relatives and survivors of violence. Its objective is to coordinate humanitarian actions to search for missing persons in the context and due to the armed conflict, or to identify and locate citizens presumed dead.
