Bogotá Citizen Assembly

The Bogotá Citizen Assembly is an experience of participation and deliberation organized by the Bogotá Mayor's Office with the support of DemoLab, the participation laboratory of the Bogotá Council. The experience is organized following the format of a "mini-public", that is, the organization sampled over 1 million homes, from which 1000 representatives were chosen among the citizens of Bogota. Citizens are selected to represent all ages, social strata and neighborhoods of the city, and the assembly is composed following the principle of gender equality. In this way, the aim is to reach a composition that reflects the demographics of the city. The elected citizens participate in a process of meetings with the members of the City Council and in a study process to learn about the issues subject to their deliberation. Within the framework of the Assembly, Forums open to all citizens are also held to inform about participatory processes, and an online platform will also be enabled so that non-selected citizens can also send their opinions and comments to the deliberative body.
