Communal Economic and Social Council
The Communal Economic and Social Council is an advisory body of the municipality composed of representatives of the local organized community. Its purpose is to ensure the participation of community organizations in relevant activities in the economic, social and cultural sectors of the municipality. The advisory body operates in the framework of the Municipal Constitutional Law 18.695. It is integrated by the mayor and a number of councilors defined by each municipality.The functions of the Council include monitoring the public accounts of the mayor, the coverage and efficiency of municipal services, and the compliance with law 18.695. Furthermore, the Council submits observations, within a period of 15 days, regarding municipal investment budgets, the local development and regulatory plan; informs, at the request of the municipality, about the modification of local and national assets for public use; meets, studies, discusses and advices on matters of local interest, and communicates them to the mayor and the City Council.
