Future Montevideo

The "Montevideo del Mañana" (lit. Future Montevideo) project was a participatory process initiated by the Montevideo city government and conducted during the years 2018 and 2019, during which different prospective exercises were carried out to develop a Plan of how the city should look by 2050. The central objective was to develop a long-term perspective for the Department of Montevideo, with goals and paths to follow, based on various stages of consultation with civil society and with professionals from various areas. Among the activities were: 21 thematic workshops, debates in the municipalities, web-based debates, the participation laboratories "MañanaLabs", colloquia, and open talks. In all instances the discussion was structured around 7 axes: metropolitan integration, the Montevideo bay, transformation of the productive matrix, connectivity and sustainable mobility, comprehensive waste management, socio-territorial integration, and cultural transformation. Around 400 people participated in the workshops in person and another 400 in the section dedicated to the Plan within the virtual platform "Montevideo Decides".
