Referendum Request: Repeal of the "Trans Law" No. 19684
The Referendum Request for the Repeal of the "Trans Law" Nr. 19684 was the result of a campaign initiated by National Party deputies Carlos Iafigliola and Álvaro Dastugue. These deputies called for a collection of signatures to convene a referendum vote in October 2018, immediately after the approval and promulgation of Bill Nr 19684, which establishes public policies for the protection of human rights for the transgender population. In March 2019, the initiators delivered more than 69,000 signatures to the Electoral Court, which enabled the referendum. 272,980 voters participated, which did not reach the 25% percentage of the electoral register. This minimum is necessary to consider the consultation valid. 266,503 (97.63%) of voters had voted in favor of the initiative to pass the law.
