National Dialogue on HIV and Human Rights
The National Dialogue on HIV and Law was held in 2013 in Honduras by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Justice and Human Rights Secretariat. This dialogue was also carried out in other Latin American countries following a standardized methodology created by the UNDP.Through an open call, the National Dialogue received 50 applications submitted by the civil society. These applications presented specific cases of violation of human rights, good practices and recommendations for issues regarding human rights and people living with HIV, discrimination, sex work, police abuse , access to health, gender identity, among other important topics. These applications were discussed in a plenary where technical support was provided in order to elaborate concrete proposals. It culminated in an open town hall where representatives from the public sector, observers and members of the civil society agreed on concrete actions that favor adequate legal environments for the protection and promotion of the rights of people with HIV, as well as mechanisms of enforceability and sanctions.
